Our Employment Law Firm Provides Harassment & Discrimination Trainings
Our firm regularly conducts in-person and/or virtual trainings to assist employers in educating their employees on relevant Federal, State, and local equal employment opportunity laws which prohibit sexual harassment and discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, religion, age, gender (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), genetic information, disability, and/or disability in the workplace.
We customize any such trainings to meet an employer’s specific needs and issues, including general training regarding discrimination and harassment in the workplace, or more in-depth training, such as training supervisory employees on their unique responsibilities under applicable equal employment opportunity laws. In the past, for example, we have conducted comprehensive training for supervisory employees on best practices for engaging in the interactive process required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (the “ADA”).
Our Lawyers Conduct Employment Investigations
SWB also has extensive experience serving as outside counsel on behalf of public and private employers for the purpose of conducting an investigation following an internal complaint of harassment and/or discrimination. We will conduct on-site interviews of the parties involved, review any and all applicable policies, documents, electronic information or other potentially relevant information, and produce a written report with findings and recommendations.
Mandated Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Trainings
We are also experienced in conducting equal employment opportunity trainings where they are required by an agency, like the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (the “EEOC”) or the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (“PHRC”), as part of an employer’s resolution of a complaint of workplace discrimination or harassment. Similarly, we conduct trainings as required by applicable law or regulations, such as for instructors and apprentices of apprentice training programs which are required by federal regulations.
Additional Trainings: Wage Laws & HIPAA Compliance
Along with equal employment opportunity trainings, our firm has experience in conducting trainings for employers on compliance with applicable federal and state wage laws. These trainings include education and best practices for classifying employees as exempt or non-exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”) or state overtime requirements, determining hours worked for non-exempt employees, calculating overtime rates, and best practices for avoiding wage and hour claims.
In addition to general equal employment opportunity and wage and hour trainings, our firm regularly conducts trainings for the employees of entities covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) or HIPAA business associates on their obligations under HIPAA to maintain the privacy and security of protected health information, (“PHI”).
